I love the Munchkin, but I’ve put so much energy into him for the past almost three years that I’ve really neglected myself in two important areas: what I eat and how active I am.  As a result, it’s time for me to get off my duff and get moving while revamping what we’re eating as a family.

What this means in practical terms is that I’ve started getting up earlier every morning to go walking.  If the weather is bad or if I can’t drag myself outside, then I do a workout or two through an app for my phone called Workout Trainer.  I’m spending more time browsing the sales at Aldi on produce so I can bring more fresh fruits and vegetables into the house and onto our plates.  And I’m searching for some new recipes to add to the repertoire; I have to find some new ones to tantalize the Munchkin’s taste buds and satisfy my need for something healthier.

As much as I love the Munchkin, I have to take care of myself so I can take better care of him.

I do have to admit that he eats amazingly well most of the time.  His favorite food is grape tomatoes, which he treats like grapes and chows by the bowlful.  I have to moderate how many he has because of their acidity; he’d eat the whole container at once if I let him.  Little goofball.  😀

He’s two now, about 35 inches tall and 28 pounds.  He’s growing like a weed and developing like mad: his speech is very clear most of the time, and he’s constantly surprising me with what he puts together verbally.  Last week I asked him what a horse says.  His response?  “Neigh.  But cow says moo.”  A little thing, but just one that reminds me what amazing creatures kids are.  Plus, it’s those moments that make up for the days he whines and yells all the way home from daycare or all afternoon on a weekend after waking up from his nap.  They have to keep us from giving them to the circus somehow, you know.

Exercise FAIL

So I’m totally failing at the whole getting in shape thing.  I did some working out while I was out of town, but now… I’m completely bushed and just not feeling it.

I wish I had gotten up this morning and worked out.  Then I probably would have felt more ready to face work going to hell in a hand basket before I even got to the office.  And my back probably wouldn’t be hurting now.  Actually, no, that would still be hurting (stupid regular hormonal visitor!).  But note to self: reset alarm clock to get up before the cats start insisting on it.

On the bright side, at least I swung by the store this morning to get fruit for my oatmeal (blueberries and peaches, yum!) and this afternoon for veggies — there were pretty much none left in the house with Southern Honey having been on his own since last Monday.  I’m throwing together a spinach salad for dinner here in a few minutes.  That all makes up a bit for the lunch I ate at Chick-fil-A.  Maybe.  Now, if only I could remember to take my vitamins without my darned phone alarm…

Toning Up

Last week I started getting up early every morning and hauling myself into the living room to work out.   I’m only about five pounds heavier than I was in high school, but it’s five very unhealthy pounds that I’d like to lose before I get pregnant — or at least turn into some more muscle.

So far, it’s working pretty well.  I’ve worked out six of the last nine weekdays, and I’m on track (if I can get to bed soon) to drag myself up tomorrow morning, too.

I’ve not seen any weight loss so far, but I can already keep up with the routines more easily.   Of course, Carmen Electra doing the damn things while completely made up and wearing a cute track suit, barely breaking a sweat, is pretty good motivation.   I might not ever look that good, but at least if I keep at it, I might not look too bad.

Next week I’ll be out of town. I’m going to go with biking in the hotel gym rather than strip aerobics (I recommend just buying Disc Two, since that’s the one with the actual workouts on it; the others require more coordination :P).   Somehow I don’t think anyone will want to see me shaking my bon-bon before I’ve had a chance to shower!
